Kraven Manor challenges the player to explore an expansive manor to discover the mysteries that lurk within. Much of the gameplay focuses on a table persisting in the main entryway of the manor. On this table rests an increasingly elaborate scaled-down model of the manor. The player must explore the depths of the house to find miniature models of rooms to bring back to this table. Wherever the player places a model on the table, the room moves and appears in real space, allowing for an entirely dynamic layout controlled by the player.
The second focus of the game is creating and maintaining a persistent uneasiness and fear for the player. Kraven Manor features an antagonist that appears and disappears throughout the game. As the player reveals more and more about the manor, the antagonist grows in confidence and power.
In sum, the game presents itself as an environmental story that unfolds as the player encounters three types of gameplay: exploration, puzzle-solving to proceed forward, and encounters with the primary antagonist.
