LibreOffice is the office suite developed by The Document Foundation (TDF). But it's much more than that: it's one of the most popular open source, cross-platform office suite.
In summary, LibreOffice is a free office suite compatible with the main office packages on the market.
In early August, The Document Foundation released LibreOffice 7.0. It was a release with important improvements, among which stands out the improvement of compatibility with Microsoft Office.
Now, The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 7.3.1 as the first one-off release for the latest and best free, cross-platform open source office package from LibreOffice 7.3.
What's new in LibreOffice 7.3.1
LibreOffice 7.3.1 is here exactly one month after LibreOffice 7.3 to fix various bugs and issues that would prevent you from successfully using the popular office suite software for any need for your home office.
A total of 98 issues were resolved in this first one-off release to provide solutions to various LibreOffice 7.3 bugs, including Auto Calculate regression in the Calc component, along with failures when running Calc without AVX instructions.
LibreOffice 7.3.1 is also here to further improve interoperability with proprietary document formats such as DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX. For details on these bug fixes, check out the RC1, RC2, and RC3 changelogs.
If you have the LibreOffice 7.3 package installed in your GNU/Linux distribution, you can upgrade to the one-off version of LibreOffice 7.3.1 in the coming days.
However, keep in the case that this is the 'Community' edition of LibreOffice, which means that if you are deploying the software in enterprise environments and need support from The Document Foundation, you'll need to rely on the LibreOffice Enterprise family of ecosystem partner applications.
The next planned update in the LibreOffice 7.3 series is LibreOffice 7.3.2, which is scheduled for late March or early April 2022 with more bug fixes and improved document compatibility for those dealing with proprietary document formats, especially the MS Office productivity suite.
LibreOffice 7.3 will be supported with a total of seven maintenance updates by November 30, 2022.
