89On the 18th of August 2023, Lucy Letby was found guilty of murdering seven babies, as well as attempting to end the lives of six other infants.
The former nurse, who worked in the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital since 2011, was arrested on the 3rd of July 2018, following a year long investigation by Cheshire Police. She would be released on bail three days later, but she would be re-arrested again on the 10th of June 2019 at her parents’ home.
After a further arrest of Letby on the 10th of November 2020, her trial began on the 4th of October 2022, for the murders of seven babies and attempted murder of ten others.
It was revealed during the trial that she deliberately injected air into her victims, as well as poisoned at least two others with insulin and over-fed milk to others. The identities of the infants have remained anonymous throughout.
The conviction sees Letby become Britain’s most prolific child serial killer. But no official motive has ever been established. Letby will be sentenced for her crimes on Monday the 21st of August 2023.
