*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*
This playthrough shows:
• a no-death run;
• the location of every hostage, item and weapon.
To get Schneider's Codec frequency (120.79), Schneider needs to call Solid Snake in Building 1. Due to a bug, this doesn't happen, so I go back to Building 1 later in the game and call him myself – [as seen at 1:12:20].
*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_Metal Gear_ for the Nintendo Entertainment System is an overhead action-adventure/stealth video game. It popularized the stealth genre. The game was ported by Konami (now Konami Digital Entertainment – a company within the Konami Group), and published by Ultra Games in North America and Konami in Europe. It was released in North America on June 17, 1988, and in Europe in March 1989.
Konami set up Ultra Games – a shell company and publishing label – as a subsidiary of Konami of America in an effort to circumvent Nintendo of America's then-strict licensing rules for the North American market.
• Konami originally released _Metal Gear_ for the Microsoft MSX2 home computer in Japan and parts of Europe in July 1987.
◦ It was developed by Konami Development Section 3.
◦ Hideo Kojima designed and wrote the game, and would go on to create most of the titles in the _Metal Gear_ series.
• In _Metal Gear,_ players control Solid Snake, an agent of High-Tech Special Forces Unit FOXHOUND.
◦ Snake embarks on a solo infiltration mission into the fortified state of Outer Heaven. His mission? Destroy Metal Gear, a bipedal tank capable of launching nuclear missiles from anywhere in the world, and rescue a number of fellow agents captured by the enemy.
• The NES version of _Metal Gear_ was developed without the involvement of the original team. Many changes were made during the porting process, resulting in the adaptation being disowned by Hideo Kojima himself years after its release.
◦ Among other things, it features drastically altered level designs, such as the Metal Gear boss being replaced by a supercomputer guarded by four enemy soldiers – [at 1:41:24].
• The success of _Metal Gear_ led to the development of two separately produced sequels.
- _Snake's Revenge_ (1990) – created specifically for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America and Europe without the involvement of Hideo Kojima;
- _Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (メタルギア2 ソリッドスネーク)_ (1990) – Kojima's sequel, released only in Japan for the Microsoft MSX2 home computer in response to the production of _Snake's Revenge._
