Metaphor Refantazio is the FUTURE of JRPGS!?
Atlus has recently shared new insights into Metaphor: ReFantazio, their upcoming RPG project. The studio is currently in the final stages of releasing Persona 3 Reload, expected to launch in about a month. However, the focus is gradually shifting towards Metaphor, slated for a 2024 release, which represents a fresh series from the renowned Japanese developer. Although many details about Metaphor: ReFantazio remain undisclosed, Atlus has started the year by offering a new sneak peek into the game.
Through a social media update, Atlus showcased three concept art pieces from Metaphor: ReFantazio. It's important to note that these are conceptual illustrations and not actual in-game visuals. The shared artwork depicts three locations within the game: the Northern Border Fort, King's Rock Face, and the Royal Capital Grand Trad, all of which have been featured in previous Metaphor trailers throughout 2023.
Details about Metaphor: ReFantazio are still largely veiled, despite its initial announcement years ago as Project Re: Fantasy. To date, Atlus has only released a couple of trailers, leaving many aspects of the game's gameplay, mechanics, and other features a mystery. What has been revealed suggests some similarities to the Persona series.
As it stands, Metaphor: ReFantazio is expected to launch in the fall of 2024. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A version for the Switch is not planned at the moment, though this may change with Nintendo's announcement of a new console in the future.
