Mortal Kombat II is well known for basically being impossible to beat in single player, due to the CPU cheating to insane levels that would even make SNK games weep. Thankfully there are a few exploits available that make getting through the game a piece of cake. You can thank TerryxMasters for this strat:

This general gist of this strat is to jump back. This will usually make the opponent jump towards you. At which point you need to jump forwards and press a kick button, and quickly follow it up with Jax's backbreaker throw (press block whilst in the air). This two hit combo does a good amount of damage, and will also floor the opponent, letting you get yourself ready to do it again. This works on all of the standard opponents in the game, although they won't always play along with it.
The strat works on Shang Tsung, the game's first boss, but it won't work on Kintaro because he can't be thrown. Kintaro is quite difficult to beat, a combination of jump kicks and well-timed projectiles is all you can do.
Shao Kahn, the game's final boss, is a joke. Just stand in place and press a kick button as he gets close to you (don't leave it too late). He'll either get hit or block it, and takes damage either way.
