The first part shows how I execute the 12 tiles charge (which is exactly 3/4 of the length of a screen).

The second part is the shortest charge that I ever got (using SNES9X v.1.53) among short charge attempts at various places in the game (like the bottom of Red Tower with both shells closed; Phantoon´s room; Tourian Sidehopper room; at the early SuperMissile´s Missile pack; etc).
The smv says that my Forwards input pattern was
3,_,_,3,_,_,4,_,4,_,_,3,_,(press and hold)
with a Dash pressing pattern of
*,[23],1*,[17],3*,[10],2(*+Down)
[but lag frames could be among those, too] where "_" means 1 frame of no inputs, the numbers without brackets stand for the numbers of frames of Forwards being held, the numbers within brackets stand for the numbers of frames in which Dash was not held, and for integers n and m, "n*m" means I held Dash n frames before the magic pose and m frames afterwards (and of course aswell at the magic frame, since otherwise the short charge would not be executed). Down was pressed at the 4th magic pose frame.

I also counted the number of pixels that I was away from the right blue shell after the crouch. It was 6 pixels (1 tile/block is 16 pixels wide and tall, and the screen is 16 blocks long). The space required hence was 12*16 - 6 = 186. In the TAS short charge pattern, Samus´ center needs strictly more than 163 pixels space (under normal circumstances, considering subpixels), so 164 pixels would be required. Samus is 10 pixels wide, meaning 9 more pixels are required, which makes it 173 pixels. Thus, this deviates from Cpadolf´s TAS short charge by the amount of 13 pixels (neglecting the improved TAS short charge methods using Moonwalk and Speedbooster switch).

Technically, less space would be required on PAL, which also runs with 50hz causing the timings to be more lenient due to longer frames. Maybe if one uses a powerbomb and/or a place with a lot of enemies and projectiles, one could abuse lag to shorten the distance a bit further for humans.

Also, don´t let the video fool you. It took me multiple hours to get this executed, even after I had learned the 12 tiles charge already. I just did not keep all the failed attempts in it.
