Aerial Ball is a variant of American football that relies on passing only. The ball is almost always in the air. No running is allowed in aerial ball, with the exception of the Quarterback who can run with the ball after the snap.

The Quarterback must start from a shotgun or pistol formation. No contact of any sort can occur between receivers and defenders before the receiver has full possession of the ball. Afterwards conventional tackling is allowed. Defense plays loose zone coverage and cannot jam receivers at the line or make intentional contact with receivers before arrival of the football.

The game is characterized by a fast pace and big plays on both offense and defense.
