Need For Speed Underground (PS2) - Credits
And with that, another playthrough is complete! Revisiting this game to play it on hard was an interesting experience. I actually enjoyed this game this time around much more than I ever have in the past. With the exception of mainly Drag races, this game didn't really seem much harder on hard than it was on Medium (which is the difficulty I played it on in the old, now deleted, playthrough).
The AI here seem pretty well balanced for the most part, the rubber banding is present but it didn't seem to be as bad as I remember. And while it's a short game, and lacks an open world, I've come to conclude that I think it has aged better than it's sequel, a game which I found has a lot of bloat, and outlives it's welcome towards the end. It was also fun to use the Neon for the entire game, it ended up being surprisingly well balanced, and it's definitely an underrated car to play the game with.
Overall, twenty years later, Need For Speed Underground remains one of the strongest entries in the series, but it isn't perfect. The frame rate chugs in some events, the Drag racing is frustrating, and the lack of an open world is still this games' ultimate weakness. Some of these problems were fixed in its sequel, while others were exasperated.
Stay tuned to the channel for a new playthrough of Underground 2, coming sometime next year!
