"NEP2N" Spaceship made in 2 hours with Blender #Neptune #NuclearPropulsion
"Nuclear Electric Propulsion To Neptune"
A short project made in Blender in about two hours (plus render time) for Clinton Jones' weekly art challenge, from the prompt "Nuclear". Nuclear Electric Propulsion (NEP) is a theoretical method of utilizing nuclear fission to power electric thrusters such as Ion Engines, allowing much greater mass payloads to be transported to great distances in the solar system, albeit typically slower than chemical or nuclear thermal propulsion systems.
This scene was made using Daniel Grove Design's "Modular Space Station" kitbash components. The spacecraft took about an hour to assemble based on a conceptual NEP vessel design from my Space Nuclear Propulsion class, and I needed about another hour to get the camera and audio right. I submitted just a still image of the spacecraft and figured I ought to render a video as well.
