In the world of Ni No Kuni, each kingdom is protected by a Kingmaker, a powerful creature hidden away in a King's Cradle whose strength is proportionate to the strength of their kingdom. Each ruler must pass the Kingmaker's trial to form a bond with the beast and rightfully rule.
In the Kingdom of Ding Dong Dell, cat and mice tribes lived together, but the minister of mice secretly poisoned the king of the cat tribe and led a coup against the king's kind hearted son, Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum. Forcefully separated from Aranella, his motherly attendant, Evan fled the kingdom with Roland Crane, the mysteriously displaced President of a large country from Ichi No Kuni.
Now Evan must prove his right to rule... using Higgledies? These heart spirits exist in anything from humans and animals to wind and water, and form emotional bonds with to enhance your skills, though they are only seen by the pure of heart. Without a kingdom, Evan has decided to unite ALL of Ni No Kuni as his kingdom. Fight your way through each Kingmaker's trial, manage your kingdom to improve your subjects' productivity and the strength of your Kingmaker, Lofty, and use a naive sense of Manifest Destiny to justify all the cute violence.
