"Now You See Me" (2013) directed by Louis Leterrier is a dumb movie pretending to be smart but it's still very fun and entertaining which is always the most important thing for me. Now it's dumb, but it's not that dumb, and I will give it some credit for attempting to cover it's bases and tracks eventually.

Four extremely talented magicians are mysteriously summoned to the same place as each other by an unknown individual. They team up and form an act together, calling themselves the Four Horsemen. Their grand shows involve stealing money from others and giving it to the audience, so they catch the FBI on their tail. Ultimately the Four Horsemen know they are bound to end up in jail at some point, but their shows continue on because of a desire to become a part of an ancient secret society called the Eye.

Now You See Me is very easy to enjoy, and is a definite crowd pleaser. It features upbeat music, constant flashing lights, and of course, magnificent magic tricks. A mark of a good magic trick in my opinion is that it will break your understanding of reality; if even for a moment, and this film's tricks definitely do. Even as someone who is calling this movie somewhat dumb, I will still admit that I was fooled more than twice both in the magic trick department as well as the narrative journey itself.

The reason I call this movie dumb is because I would have expected a tighter, better executed circumstances and events from a film of this stature. This is a high budget octane ensemble cast thriller with huge expectations for itself. I have no problem with the magic tricks themselves, but I do have a problem with their ridiculously convoluted and meticulous plan that is absolutely impossible to execute in the manner they did; they make the FBI and all other officials look completely inept in their jobs and it's really laughable. And the other big issue I had is on the topic of the ensemble cast here, I felt every single character was morally bad to the point there was no actual protagonist or "hero" to root for, and I did not like the forced relationship between Agent Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) and the INTERPOL lady.

Now You See Me will blow your mind if you are a child or are someone who hasn't seen a film like this before. That being said I did enjoy it, and I'm not making fun of anyone who may like or appreciate it even more than I did.
