13The Final Chapter of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, we use the Crystal Stars to finally enter The Thousand Year Door. Beyond the Door we find ourselves in the Palace of Shadows, making our way through traps, enemies, platforming challenges, and puzzles. Finding our way to the Riddle Tower, we're going to come back to this, but first we venture further past and we come head to head with Gloomtail, Hooktail's stronger older brother. We take down Gloomtail and get the Star Key. We move back to the Riddle Tower, open it up with Bobbery head inside and solve the 8 puzzles inside getting all 8 palace keys, head to the top of the tower, use the Star Key, and use all of the collected palace keys.
When we leave the tower we are ambushed by Beldam, Marilyn, and Doopliss. We dispatch them and head even deeper into the Palace of Shadows. Completing more puzzles, platforming, and fights until we find ourselves in what appears to be a Throne Room. Grodus stands before us, but goes down just like the rest, but the fiend has a trick up his sleeve, Princess Peach who he threatens if we are to act again, but before any actions can take place Bowser falls through the ceiling and lands on top of Grodus. Bowser being Bowser immediately picks a fight with us, and during the scuffle Grodus is able to get up and grab Peach taking her past the Throne Room to the chamber below.
We descend the final staircase and enter the door. It's too late the ritual begins and the Shadow Queen awakens, taking over Peach's body, and blanketing the world in shadow. We fight but after a brief time the Shadow Queen enters her true form and becomes impervious to our attacks. All hope feels lost until the Crystals Stars fly out to all of the locations we've been, and more importantly to all friends we've made along the way. Sending us their hopes and cheers the Shadow Queen is weakened, and for a moment Peach breaks free from her grasp giving us the last of her strength. The fight begins once again with both sides at full health, but now we can hurt the Shadow Queen once again. We fight a fierce fight and emerge victorious over the demonic Shadow Queen, saving the day, the world, and of course Princess Peach.
We say a hearty farewell to all of our friends and take the boat back to the Mushroom Kingdom. After regaling Luigi the tale of our adventure, we get an email from Goombella, giving us updates on how everyone is doing. To finish things off Peach and Toadsworth come and tell us of another Treasure Map and want us to come along too. Roll Credits
