In 2010, 2K Czech developed and 2K published Mafia II, an action-adventure game, which hit the gaming scene on August 24 for PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360. Serving as a standalone sequel to 2002's Mafia and the second installment in the Mafia series, the narrative unfolds in the fictional city of Empire Bay between 1945 and 1951. The protagonist, Vito Scaletta, a young Sicilian-American mobster and war veteran, finds himself entangled in a power struggle among the city's Mafia crime families. His mission: to settle his father's debts and secure a more prosperous lifestyle.

The game is presented from a third-person perspective, allowing players to explore the world on foot or by vehicle. Engaging in criminal activities triggers a response from law enforcement, gauged by a "wanted" system that dictates the intensity of their reaction. Development commenced in 2003, shortly after the debut of the initial Mafia game. While Mafia II garnered positive reviews upon release, applauding its compelling story, well-crafted characters, and engaging gameplay, criticisms surfaced regarding its restrictive world design and the absence of certain features found in other sandbox games.

An enhanced version, Mafia II: Director's Cut, including all previously released downloadable content, emerged in December 2011, courtesy of Feral Interactive. A subsequent sequel, Mafia III, developed by Hangar 13 (the successor to 2K Czech), hit the market in October 2016. To coincide with the remake of the first game in the series, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, a remastered version developed by D3T, was released by 2K Games on May 19, 2020, receiving mixed critical reception. This Definitive Edition was later bundled in the Mafia: Trilogy, which made its debut on September 25, 2020.
