Who are you?
Do you hear me?
I am speaking to you and yet…
You don’t understand
You don’t see me
All you see is a misguided child
A monster, a beast.
Your dark blue eyes scolding me,
your body tense.
You don’t see what I see.
You don’t see me cry
You don’t see me shudder
You don’t understand
You just stay there and judge
Your lips pinched together
your mind saying shut up and do what’s told
That’s all you do
You judge me for what you see
But not what you hear
You are blind and yet you have sight,
You hear but you are deaf.
And yet
I have words to say
But find myself mute
