Here's my piano version of Nemona's Regular Battle theme, just ahead of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC: The Teal Mask drop. Unpopular opinion: her regular battle theme is better than her Champion Battle theme. Whereas the last couple of generations have had weak/forgettable champions, Scarlet and Violet finally gave us one with some actual character development/personality. And her battle theme exudes all of that.

=====(The Details/Performer's Notes)=====
This track flies and at around 160 bpm, it's one of the trickier covers on the channel this year. It's full of many technical pitfalls that can take a good recording/performance and destroy it. To name a few: There are large rapid leaps, fast running passagework, and syncopations galore. But the biggest challenge for me is the chromatic stride/boom-chuck sections. Those alone caused me to delay the release of this video for months, trying to get a good take. A similar thing happened with my Bonetrousle cover (https://youtu.be/ViP1_wMzwmE?si=p6eOxWdISjlOQhUK). That technique is a weakness of mine for sure.

Even now this recording has it's blemishes. I spent days reviewing several takes, even asking for the advice of a trusted colleague/friend (shoutout to you Andrew) for his opinion before deciding on which recording to use. In the end the final result is one I'm satisfied with but admittedly it could be much better. It's super frustrating when I can play this so much better on an acoustic grand piano, but that's just a fact of life. No electric keyboard will be able to compare.

As for the arrangement itself, this one has a lot of artistic liberties taken. I've purposely changed the harmonies and drastically changed the textures/accompaniment in some places. Adding things here and taking away things there, with the goal of capturing the vibe of the original while tailoring it for piano. This cover took a lot of time to put together so if you like these kinds of covers, be sure to share it and show it some love.
