After completing my LP of La-Mulana, I came back to the game and did a private run of my own. This second run was my reward for enduring the obtuse puzzles, impenetrable gameplay, brutal boss fights, and every other dick move the game threw at me in the LP.

I have fallen pray to the "Nintendo Hard" syndrome; that is, hammering on an unreasonably difficult game until you finally beat it into submission, then feeling fondly toward that game, because you know you can do with ease something that any uninitiated gamer would find all but impossible.

I've called it "micromemorize to feel good about yourself!" Because that's what it amounts to, and I hate it. I hate that style of game design, and I still hate La-Mulana for being the single most dramatic example of it ever. But there's no denying the hypocrisy - I enjoyed my private run, that ended in the battle you see here.

I felt like I was missing one big thing from the LP. Because of time constraints, I recorded my successful attempts against the Mother separate from my final successful attempt at the endgame escape sequence. So, to fill that gap, I offer this video, showing my private run's first attempt against the Mother and the subsequent escape, all in one video. The only hiccup should come right after beating the Mother, where I quickly stopped and restarted the recording to fix the slowdown.

Looks like La-Mulana has now joined Demon's Souls as games that I have complete tsundere feelings for. I like them, but I don't LIKE that I like them. Both games still piss me off to no end. But, well, emotional contradictions are part of human nature.
