In 2009/2010, Square Enix released their first Final Fantasy on the
"next-gen" platforms of the era. It was a rather large departure from
the usual FF-fare, in that it is not only very linear, but also has
almost no side-quests.
The story takes place on Gran Pulse, either on the surface of the
planet or the floating city of Cocoon. Lightning, Sazh, Vanille and
three other characters battle the theocratic government (the Sancum)
and the godlike beings known as fal'Cie.
The main video is a slow and steady progress through the game, with no
major sidetracking. The "Datalog" give information about many things
in and around the world, which are read at the beginning of each
chapter. The only real side-quest, the "Cie'th Missions", are mostly
tackled in the bonus video. Some are done in the main playthrough, in
chapter 11, but there are over 60 in total.
Expect LOTS of backtracking in the bonus-video, I was too lazy to edit
it properly. The bonus video also contains the animations for all
summons and their special abilities, as well as the unique ability
each character gets. Finally, we beat up on the most powerful boss in
the game (the final Cie'th mission) and also the most powerful non-boss
enemies in the world and get ultimate weapons (and ponies!) for everyone.
