In this video: Investigating and tearing down a Quantum Fireball HDD. Most screws on this particular HDD are standard Philips head screws. One of them seemingly was a Torx(?) screw. After undoing the screws and stabbing the glue in between the drive with scissors, the assembly pops open quite easily. The USB to IDE adapter that I tried using couldn't detect the HDD so unfortunately wasn't able to check what it looks like to operate the drive while it is opened up. (Setting the jumper to Master or Cable select did not work).
Drive specs: Quantum Fireball EL 3.5 Series.
