Part 7. This game is really cool and I'm a little sad I haven't played this sooner. First the bad. One of the last areas you get into is a huge area that has 2 different versions and trying to scour the whole thing and find it's secrets are a massive pain. It's a cool idea to add shifting sands and different instances, but it's so damn big it can take hours to look through it all. It's also got a bit of that Donkey Kong 64 issue where only certain robots can perform certain activities, so if you see something for a specific robot and don't have them with you you have to go back to a fast travel spot and swap for them. It gets old pretty fast. Some of the combat gets a bit repetitive after a while, but that's okay. Combat is pretty cool though. You have one gun but can swap between colors. Enemies are color coded and if you match their respective color you do extra damage. You robots also correlate to colors and you can summon them in for instant damage and command them to attack with their specials for even more. It can be pretty intense, especially when there is more than a couple of enemies. The bosses are also pretty cool. What really shines is the movement and platforming. The controls are snappy and responsive. You have a double jump and dash, which can get you just about anywhere. Though you also have a glider and a bug robot that can run on rails and launch you. All of which can be linked together in some very satisfying ways. During your adventures you'll stumble across challenge arenas. Some are combat oriented, some are strictly platforming and some are a combination of the two. Really cool. The best part is that once you beat them you can complete secondary objectives for more loot. These secondary challenges push you to run through the courses with perfection while being timed and trying to shoot down colored nodes along the way, really fun stuff. The loot can be used to upgrade yourself with more health, but also schematics you can make for you companions and beef them up. You create the schematics with orbs that you get from enemies. When you kill enemies you get the option of blowing them up for random items, but you can also extract their orbs for orb currency. Sweet. Those items are used to make the schematics into parts along with a few orbs. You also have the choice of using the orbs to add to your companions stats; attack, defense and energy. The graphics are solid and the game ran pretty smoothly for me. The biggest downside is that a lot of the areas all looked the same. They were largely fun to explore and play around in, but it was a bit sad there wasn't more variety to them other than desert. it's a small gripe. This game is pretty darn sweet and I fully enjoyed my time with it. Enjoy my blind playthrough. P.S. It's a Zelda-like.
