In 2002, Capcom's survival horror king, the legendary 'Resident Evil', received its first live action film adaptation. For the longest time, the announcement of a movie based on our favorite video game came with one specific certainty: that it would suck. Whether it was the Super Mario Bros movie that barely resembled the video games or the Street Fighter and Double Dragon films that are the living embodiment of "what is this?" it almost never failed. With Paul WS Anderson on tap as Resident Evil's writer and director, maybe the tides could turn. After all, it was Anderson who directed the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, a movie that is, to this day, considered one of the better video game adaptations ever made. So it had a chance, right?

Today on SCREAM SEQUENCE, we'll be taking a deep dive into this first Resident Evil film with zero agenda. I'm not here to brag about how good it is, nor am I interested in burying this movie for the next 30 minutes. We've got good and bad here, and I plan to cover it all.
