Sanctum is a 3D action-adventure movie from producer James Cameron that is set for release on February 4, 2011.  The movie follows the adventures of a group of underwater cave divers who get trapped inside a massive underground cave during an expedition. When a tropical cyclone floods the cave, the divers must work together to stay alive and to find a way out.  Sanctum stars Richard Roxburg, Rhys Wakefield and Alice Parkinson. 

Reviews for Sanctum began coming out several days before the film's wide release in U.S. theaters.  Overall, reviews were mixed to poor.  On February 3, 2011, Sanctum garnered a 33 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes' "Tomatometer."  The film scored a slightly better 45 out of a possible 100 on Metacritic.com.

Major movie critics who offered average, or less-than-favorable reviews of Sanctum, seemed to feel that one of the problems with the film is its script.  Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune says Sanctum's script "should've been called 'Sanctimonium'," because it "has a serious case of the bends."  The Hollywood Reporter's Michael Rechtshaffen seems to agree, saying that Sanctum suffers from "soggy theatrics."  Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times says Sanctum "tells the story of a terrifying adventure in an incompetent way."  Ebert gives Sanctum one-and-a-half out of four stars.

If there is a bright spot for Sanctum, it is the visuals in the movie, according to many critics, including Variety's Justin Chang, who advises movie-goers that "the key to enjoying Sanctum is to look, not listen."
