MY TAKE ON GANDALF'S DISAPPEARANCE

As Gandalf fell, he could feel the searing pain of the fire whip clasped tightly around his ankle. The Bridge of Khazad-Dum quickly faded in a cloud of black, ashen smoke. The roar of the balrog deafened his senses. Everything went black...

When Gandalf awoke he found himself in an unfamiliar place, a place between worlds, a place known as the Astral Plane. As he floated in time and space he could see another world, a reflection of Middle Earth. It shimmed, beckoning him forward.

Gandalf approached and as he did so an Astral projection materialised before him and spoke,
"This is the Age of Wonders and here resides the spirit of Sauron. You must destroy his spirit for otherwise you will not be able to enter Mordor. Mordor is an illusion and you will not find his true form while his spirit resides here. Vanquish Sauron from this realm and return to Middle Earth.

With that, there was a blinding flash of brilliant white and Gandalf was cast from the Astral Plane.

and here lies our story - we must destroy Sauron and his generals and return to Middle Earth as Gandalf the White.
