This here is an epic compilation of some of the best Shoot 'Em Up titles for the PS2 console, all put together by UsagiRu. Each game is fully playabe, & has its own unique menus.

1. Alien Hominid: A 2D side-scrolling shooter from The Behemoth is back! With your mighty blaster & a group of mysterious kids by your side, destroy the agency, & reclaim your spaceship! With hand-drawn graphics, excitingly fast gameplay, & the humor that started it all, loading up this title is like traveling decades back in time, with improved visuals & the same hardcore gaming experience.

2. Assault Suits Valken: Get ready for all-out robotic war! As Earth reels from the impact of the fourth world war & dwindling resources, an uneasy truce between nations sees mankind reach for the stars. Colonies are settled, resources are mined & the future starts looking a little brighter. But just as peace finally seems possible, an unknown enemy emerges from the deepest region of space to threaten the very existence of humanity.

3. Cho Aniki - Sea Seeding Protein Densettes: It introduces different protein types dropped by enemies to power up the main shot, fill up the Men's Beam gauge or add screen-clearing bombs. Options now track the player's movement, with the player being able to lock their position, & the player is also able to turn backwards to shoot enemies coming from behind.

4. Neo Contra: My personal favorite choice out of the 7 in this disc (game file). This awesome game officially is the tenth video game in the Contra series published by Konami. It was developed by Team Neo Kijirushi, a group of staff members within Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, & released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. The game is a direct follow-up to Contra: Shattered Soldier, but returns to the multidirectional shooting format & departs from the traditional scrolling shooter formula used in previous games. It was the first game in the series to receive an M (Mature) rating from the ESRB.

5. The Red Star: The story is based on a graphic novel of the same name. It is set in a futuristic, magic-using Soviet Union, which uses floating Skyfurnaces (magical ships) & Warkasters (sorcerers) to conquer its enemies. The game itself is a wonderful mix of several video game genres like beat' em ups & shooters. The action is seen from the isometric perspective, with the goal of walking around, fighting enemies along the way. RPG elements are also apparent as players have the option of upgrading certain attributes of a character depending on how well levels are completed.

6. Thunder Force VI: Being the only directional one on this list, Thunder Force 6 is a 2008 horizontal-scrolling shooter video game developed & published for the PS2 by Sega. The game places the player in the role of a starship that must eradicate the Orn Faust empire before they destroy all of Earth. The player must complete each stage by shooting down enemies & avoiding collisions with them & their projectiles, using an arsenal of powerful weapons to destroy them.

7. Yukinko Daisenpuu - Sayuki To Koyuki No Hiehie Daisoudou: This incredible shoot-em-up (with the English translation for the title being "Heavenly Guardian: Sayuki & Koyuki's Big Commotion") is a scrolling shooter game developed by Starfish SD. It was originally released on the Wii in 2007 and PlayStation 2 in 2008. The game was originally planned to be an entry in Taito's Pocky & Rocky series, but due to legal issues with Square Enix, the game's title & characters were changed while maintaining the core gameplay.
