Sly 3 - "Disappearing Twitchy Ned" Bug Fixed
13This job has a pretty big flaw - the Crow's Nest is too small for Twitchy Ned to stay laying down, so he'll constantly look for a nearby space, often falling off the Crow's Nest onto the ground. This is quite common and you've probably seen this yourself, and it doesn't cause any issues as he still teleports back into place to start the chase sequence.
What you probably haven't seen is Ned not being there at all. On rare occasions, instead of just falling off, he'll get flung off. If he gets flung off into the ocean and doesn't make it back onto the ship or land in time, he'll hit the death barrier and die, causing him to not be able to partake in the chase, softlocking the mission - you'll have to die to make him respawn.
Fixing this bug was hard for several reasons:
1. Ned falling into the water is a rare occurance, so I didn't want to go full nuclear and do something like spawn Ned on the deck of the ship by default because that would affect all the times he doesn't fall into the water, making it look quite messy of a fix.
2. Unlike special NPCs such as Black Spot Pete or LeFwee, Ned uses a normal dog guard. Due to the way the game manages resources, Ned doesn't always use the same guard "slot" in memory.
Modder NiV-L-A taught me how to find spawn data for specific entities, including Ned, which gave me a memory address that always pointed to Ned in memory, no matter which dog guard "slot" he uses. A few methods failed, but I eventually figured out how to make him completely locked in place until the chase started, which will not only fix him falling into the water, but also leaving the Crow's Nest at all.
This is one of the bugfixes that will be included with the Bulletpoint Mod.
