Solasta: Crown of the Magister was released at a time when its more popular cousins, Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous and Baldur's Gate 3, were all the talk. Owlcat’s 180 hour + behemoth of a game had been out for less than two months and a new release date for Larian's highly anticipated title was recently announced by the time Solasta hit the stores. And despite that, it managed to get the attention of a good chunk of the D&D CRPG community. And with good reason!
Of the more modern medieval fantasy isometric RPG titles that appeal to those who fell in love with titles like Bioware's Baldur's Gate 2, Black isle's Icewind Dale 2 and other infinity engine based games or Troika's The Temple of Elemental Evil almost 20 years ago, Solasta was the only one that solidly captured the charm and pace of the old days in the eyes of many.
Its first campaign DLC: The Lost Valley, as well as the paid upgrade packages: Primal Calling and Inner strength, kept the flame of the original game alive for almost a year. And this year it was time for Palace of Ice to make its debut with its upgraded dungeon maker (now campaign maker) and its single player campaign... is worth your time though? Let's find out!
