Sonic 3D: Blast - No Flickies Mod - No Emeralds Playthrough
1There's another mod that's more popular that has the same premise but also Super Sonic for collecting all the Chaos Emeralds, however I just wanted to show off that Sonic 3D is more fun when you're not concerned about Flickies.
There's also the Director's Cut version by some of the original Travelers Tale people that is worth considering a playthrough of.
I've also yet to play the Saturn version, which has a Sonic 2 style bonus stage and CD audio, but given I prefer the Megadrive soundtrack on the whole I'll probably only play it once.
This version is probably how I'll probably play Sonic 3D from now on (maybe with the Super Sonic addition too), and I'll most likely add it going forward in my yearly Sonic marathon of the classic games (1/2/3/Knuckles/CD).
I seemed to recall most of the level layouts quite well, other than maybe Volcano Valley 2 which I missed the obvious progression path once.
Rusty Ruin's boss is the the first time you'll really get used to the Isometric viewpoint and judging jumps, which will help a lot with Volcano Valley's boss.
That bit in Panic Puppet is STILL annoying, but I didn't mind so much when the music is that good. Most of the levels feel so much quicker when you don't have to worry about finding and keeping a hold of the Flickies.
My original playthrough of the vanilla game with all 7 Emeralds is almost an hour longer, and only around half that time is because of the Emeralds for comparison:
