What is Spirit Hunter: NG?

It's been five years since the legend that's come to be known simply as 'Death Mark' happened in Japan's H City. Now, near the small town of Kissouji, a new trouble arises when a young girl up and vanishes one night like fog after the sun's warm, soothing light. That girl was your sister. Take control of Akira Kijima and face the spirits you thought were merely urban legends to save your sister!

NG plays almost exactly as it's predecessor Death Mark did. Most of the game is that of a Visual Novel, mostly just story telling, but after enough story telling, eventually you'll come to the haunt of a spirit, a being that was once human but died with a powerful grudge that caused it to remain in the world of the living.

Investigations are exactly the same in NG as they were in Death Mark, but the boss battles, if you want to call them that, have changed completely. No longer are you using your two partners to do combo attacks or the like to prepare for a spirit's attacks, now you must use not just the items you've found during your investigation, but even the very enviroment itself to get rid of the spirit. However, even though you may remove the spirit's grudge, depending on what actions you take, you may wish you hadn't.

There's slightly more music in NG than there was in Death Mark, although all the music that plays in NG comes from the DLC/6th Chapter of Death Mark, but it's pretty good music, if I do say so myself. There's also one song in this game that I'm very fond of, and it's the instrumental track, Wander Rabbits.

Graphics-wise, NG is exactly the same as Death Mark, but NG also has far more CGs than Death Mark, as well, and it's going to take you at least two-and-a-half playthroughs to see them all, in addition to getting all the story out of the game as is possible.

NG also has three endings available for the player to achieve, however, for this playthrough, I'll be going for the good ending as I assume that's the canonical ending. The True End/Good End for Death Mark is the canonical ending there, so I would assume the same is truu here in NG, as well.

All in all, everything Death Mark did, NG does better. Better storytelling, better music, better characters and the list goes on. About the only true complain I have for NG is that it takes so long to get to the main meat and potatoes of the game. That, and some of the later cases where you have to click on exactly one exact space that you would never think to click on to move the plot along. It's not as bad as, say, Dead of the Brain, but it could still be better, too, you know?
