Just finished playing the Spiritfall beta and, well it's pretty fun. Check out this Spiritfall review to get a glimpse of what you can expect as this game leads up towards release. Spiritfall is an action roguelite game that has lots of different upgrade choices as you work your way through levels of enemies who can go from the easy to kill, to very annoying realm of possibility. The boss fights in Spiritfall are definitely a highlight!

Playing spirit fall beta, it's pretty cool, but in the never ending and expanding pool of action based roguelites, you could forgive me for being sceptical about a game, that no doubt looks pretty, but also kind of looks like it's doing what, so many other titles have aimed at doing in the past. The closest title I can think of in terms of gameplay and mechanics, would be Skul the hero slayer, a game which I'm pretty fond of, and whilst the art choice and perhaps polish differ, you can see that Spiritfall is going to come down to some pretty key focus points that Skul does. That being, is this game fun to play, and also, does this game have enough depth and difficulty to the battle mechanics that make it fun to take on, yet challenging enough to provide longevity and improvement.

Whilst Spiritfall does a lot of features that will be familiar, it throws them together in a way that makes it pretty fun to play. Even looking at simple choices, like letting us choose which path to take before each level, giving regular upgrade choices and elemental status effects is really cool, and whilst I found it frustrating that some upgrades seem to cancel out others, i did like the amount of layers of customisation, moving from run specific add ons, to permanent stat upgrades and indeed new weapons that change not only the way you fight, but the animations that the character uses as well. The boss fights are pretty awesome, and Spiritfall definitely falls into the category of games that will provide you with dumb deaths because your rushing, however I did breeze through the second area and boss fight of the beta, so either I got pretty good quite quick, or perhaps that part of it has been hashed out just a little less. I like the fisty cuff boxing gloves, and once I really felt like I had the handle of things, and was getting ready to kick some serious ass, well the beta demo finished, and here I am writing this out. There's potential, but whether this is, highschool kid doesn't amount to anything potential, or a a grade roguelite action game for us to look forward to. Well have to wait and see.
