‘The smell of the steam, the pounding of the engines, the drift of white smoke across the fields, the grit in your eye' - Miles Kington, dedicated enthusiast, relives boyhood pleasures in this celebration of the steam age. In Steam Days he encounters some of the great engines, travels the famous lines and meets the wonderfully eccentric people who keep steam alive in Britain today.

# The Fishing Line

The West Highland fishing line from Fort William to Mallaig was built to transport herring at the end of the nineteenth century. Today, the herring are gone, but the steam engines again run regularly as part of the booming tourist industry. Miles Kington takes a ride through this breathtaking mountain landscape and meets some of the local heroes.
