If you do not have an HDR supported monitor, then watch on your mobile device which should have HDR if you purchased with in the last 7-8 years

For the last month I've been testing ways to push the highest quality OBS HDR recordings with the easiest and quickest workflow. It should go like this

- Gaming PC + Consoles plugged into HDMI 2.1 switcher.
- Switcher outputs to Elgato 4K60 PRO mk2 in Streaming PC
- Streaming PC records native 1440p HEVC high bitrate (CQP 16) Rec 2100 PQ Main10 300nits base P010(4:2:0) Color Space to external NAS
- Streaming PC also uses Elgato Camlink for HDR Mirrorless camera capture if needed.
- Streaming PC outputs to 1440p 144hz HDR Gaming monitor
- Must use Bypass EDID in Elgato's 4K Capture utility to gain correct HDR specs (internal works but sometimes causes issues)
- This allows gaming + recording in HDR on gaming PC + all Consoles
- Audio includes 4K60pro's native HDMI audio + external Zedi 8 mixer (this is extremely complicated given how I specifically wanted my audio routed because I want separate control of audio levels being recorded and being played out to speakers)
- Video file recorded directly to NAS which is used to edit from
- Can edit remotely from Macbook Pro M3 in Final Cut (the fastest and highest quality export for the bandwidth). Can also edit remotely in Premiere (the easiest and best workflow)
- This also allows streaming in SDR while gaming and recording clips in HDR.
- Youtube's compression algo is super heavy, and if you can, recording in 4K HDR is so much better quality as it allows much higher bitrates. But the "cost" is too high currently for 4K HDR 60fps content in workflow, storage, and in export times. Since most people consume content on their phones, this means that 1440p is the best resolution per PPI. 4K phone displays basically don't exist.
- However, playing and recording in 1440p and upscaling to 4K HDR may be a much better option. I will be testing this later.
- ALSO NOTE: Premiere Pro has the best workflow of any editor but its the most expensive and least reliable option. Every update is a gamble on if it will break OBS's complicated VFR videos especially if you do not want to transcode prior to editing (basically doubling your editing time). Davinci is solid but doesn't show HDR in the preview window. To do that you'd need to purchase a $1000 external playback hub. Final Cut is the fastest option but I can't seem to find out how to export in HDR10 (only HLG which is what you're seeing above). However Final Cut does not work with Fragmented MOV / MP4 files and you need to transcode. So Premiere is the best option until it isn't. This has been YEARS of this btw, which is most likely why you don't see a lot of HDR content on YT despite it being around for over a decade.
- I will probably do a full video explaining this entire setup since NO ONE on youtube has figured this workflow out in an easy to edit and easy to manage way (EposVox does OK but does not care about editing workflow).
