This take was played on a RetroArch emulator with a PS5 controller.
I have a copy of the original Super Mario Bros. for NES but got a new gaming PC and wanted to test how well everything plays on it for convenience and wanted to play some hacks and randomizers like this as well.
Level-Headed is a program that allows you to take your Super Mario Bros. rom and patch it with some randomizer options to create a custom hack for yourself. It is better than a lot of other randomizers because it even builds custom levels for you and integrates art, sounds, music and powerups that come from other hacks. It is unlikely that anyone will ever get the exact same result as you, even if you generate thousands of games.
This is just a full playthrough with the game's audio only and no commentary.
During this playthrough I only made it to World 4-3.
In set 1, all of the generator options were set to random.
In this rom (0029), Sonic ended up being the playable character. The powerup was a gem that gives Sonic the power to throw gems that bounce across the ground into enemies and even up block staircases.
