#SuperOldGameSaturday - Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (PlayStation 2) - Part 3
Recorded/Aired on Friday, March 1st, 2024
"Wait, what?!" Get used to saying that A LOT as we return to Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance for PlayStation 2 here on #SuperOldGameSaturday for Part 3, where we finish the main story with our trip through Arsenal Gear. The story of this 2001 Konami/Hideo Kojima classic was already heady and twisty in the past parts we've done, but with cut-scenes that run for over 40 minutes this time, there are MANY surprises and many concepts about the personal self, AI, family, what is really the truth/reality, social engineering, psychological contradictions and philosophical quandaries that will have you having to adjust on the fly to what unfolds and what you think about what you'll end up seeing. Or, as ElecVerse (who requested this game) said best in our best chat on Twitch, this entire game is "probably greatest lie in gaming and love it", which I (and I'm pretty sure DollyFinn and AJ who joined us for this one) agree with. We all had a great time diving deep into a game that's certainly designed for and deserving of that(and talking about other aspects of this series, its lore, its boss battles and more discussion on the great voice acting here), but after finishing the main story, we still have more of this play to go, starting with the Snake Tales that we completed two of this time (and man, the second one was an experience), which ask what would happen if the Plant chapter starred Solid Snake instead of Raiden in a group of small and slightly connected segments. We'll finish the other three Snake Tales off next month and, for the finale in May, we'll go into the VR Missions and some assorted extra bits to give our complete look at and love to Metal Gear Solid 2, to which I thank ElecVerse for requesting and to him, DollyFinn and AJ for joining this time and making this already another great play of this great game. So, sit back, grab some snacks and enjoy your mind being blown for Part 3 of Metal Gear Solid 2 (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag, where you can join our shows and conversations on what we play each week live, as well as see the planned time of our next stream, which is this Friday at 7 PM EST)!
