5Daniel entered the sting operation under the influence of drugs. Del Harvey spoke to Daniel while posing as the teenage girl in a different room. The two shared a conversation before Chris Hansen entered the room and told Daniel to sit. Daniel initially replied, "Nothing," but later altered it to, "Nothing good," when asked what his plan was. Throughout the interview, Daniel would cough uncontrollably with every explanation he would give. He asserted that he would not have sex with the girl and would instead warn her about sexual predators who want to exploit young teenagers.
He claimed he wouldn't do it because one of his sixteen-year-old cousins was raped and murdered after meeting someone online. When questioned why he did it, he responded that it was "stupid." He initially denied bringing condoms, but he later acknowledged doing so. Daniel insisted he didn't intend to use them and that he was instead going to give the girl the condoms.
Chris eventually had enough of Daniel's lies and told him to tell the truth. In the end, Daniel admitted that he had made up the whole "mentor" business, but he insisted that he had merely gone to the house to chat with the girl. Daniel admitted to watching To Catch a Predator and Dateline NBC when Chris questioned if he watched them. The moment the cameras emerged, he decided to leave. Riverside police quickly apprehended Daniel and took him into custody.
