The art of Metal Gear sold collection exists out of two books, studio works and Gallery works. The gallery work art is a thick heavy book consisting out of 425 pages, which is bigger than the other. It’s hardcover and has strong high quality paper. The book does not cover any in game guide, however it does include some character profile information. In addition seldom one could find random words on the pages and rarely some artist comments.
The content is divided over metal gear solid 1 till four. Where MGS 1 has 88 pages, MGS 2 has 76 pages, MGS 3 has 84, MGS 4 has 76 pages and as bonus MGS peace walker 95 pages. So what to expect? Full blown Illustrations of all characters, from full body to portrait views. While Yoji Shinkawa has a really cool black and white art style, many of these illustrations are supported by color which definitely enhances the art form. There is a real artistic vibe in this book. Interestingly while studio works has a lot of environmental art, the gallery works focuses on the characters with some metal gear art. Again if you like zone of the enders you will recognize design types. One of the later pages also shows metal gear Rex, as a t-Rex inspired monster, which is an extremely cool touch. There are some in game character models, but mainly everything are drawn illustrations so its acceptable. This book has similar recommendation as the studio works version, its awesome especially if you like the artist. Simply this collection is.... solid.
