44Almost half of France's total water consumption goes to agriculture, and in some regions and periods even more than eighty percent goes to irrigation. Large-scale water reserves are created to water the fields in hot summers.
But as France faces increasingly frequent water shortages, opposition to these reservoirs is growing. There, it is not angry farmers who occupy the roads with tractors, but rather citizens who take to the field against farmers.
