Did you know that after the unexpected and wild success of NieR Automata, the previous game in the series, NieR Replicant, was remade and re-released in 2021?

The original version on PS3 and Xbox 360 was sort of a cult classic, but it completely bombed in terms of sales.

And it’s crazy that a sequel ever got greenlit. But the gamble paid off, because NieR Automata ended up being a smash hit, selling 7 million copies worldwide.

So, modernizing and re-releasing the original Nier game made a lot of sense, because the vast majority of fans never experienced it.

But is this new version actually worth playing?

Well, Replicant may not be as good as its sequel, but it’s still a great game.

The revamped graphics and gameplay make this older title quite palatable, but the game still shows its age at times and can feel a little grindy.

The combat is engaging, and the characters are complex, but you’ll have to finish the game multiple times to get the true ending.

Things certainly get repetitive, but those who stick it out are rewarded with a story that’s amazingly powerful and completely unique.
