Directors Cut With My Favorite Scenes From Different Recordings
The Great Movie Ride was a signature attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, opening with the park on May 1, 1989. This attraction was a celebration of the history of film, featuring scenes from classic movies across various genres, including “Singin’ in the Rain,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Casablanca.” The ride took guests through scenes from famous films throughout motion picture history, employing a combination of Audio-Animatronic figures, practical sets, live actors, special effects, and projections to recreate iconic moments. The attraction was located inside a recreation of the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, one of Hollywood’s most iconic movie palaces. It directly inspired the creation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and was a significant part of the park’s early years.
Unfortunately, the Great Movie Ride closed on August 13, 2017, becoming the park’s last opening-day attraction to permanently close. It was replaced by Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which still uses the Chinese Theatre replica as its setting1. The ride featured life-size animatronic sculptures of stars like Gene Kelly, John Wayne, James Cagney, and Julie Andrews, inhabiting some of the largest sets ever constructed for a Disney ride. 🎥🌟
