Story: The Lost Vikings ist ein Computerspiel des amerikanischen Spieleentwicklers Silicon & Synapse (heute: Blizzard Entertainment). Das Spiel vermischt Elemente der Genres Jump ’n’ Run, Denkspiel und Adventure. Es kam erstmals 1993 für die Spielkonsole Super Nintendo Entertainment System auf den Markt, später auch für PCs und weitere Spielkonsolen. 1996 erschien ein Nachfolger namens Norse by Norse West: The Return of the Lost Vikings.
Der erste Teil erschien im Jahre 1993, veröffentlicht unter Blizzards früherer Unternehmensbezeichnung Silicon & Synapse durch den amerikanischen Publisher Interplay Entertainment. Darin werden die drei Wikinger Erik, Baleog und Olaf aus ihrem Heimatdorf auf das Raumschiff des Außerirdischen Tomator entführt, der im Universum fremdartige Spezies sammelt, um sie in seiner Galerie auszustellen. Den Wikingern gelingt die Flucht, allerdings müssen sie sich nun durch verschiedene Welten den Weg nach Hause suchen.
Der Spieler steuert abwechselnd einen der drei Hauptcharaktere mit ihren unterschiedlichen, exklusiven Fähigkeiten, um mit allen gemeinsam das Ende der genretypisch zweidimensionalen Levels zu erreichen. Dabei verfügt Baleog über Schwert und Bogen, Olaf über einen Schild und Erik kann springen und durch Rammen brüchige Wände zum Einsturz bringen. Die Wikinger müssen stets zusammenarbeiten, um die Aufgaben und Rätsel lösen zu können. Stirbt einer von ihnen, ist der Level nicht mehr zu schaffen.
English: The Lost Vikings is a computer game from the American game developer Silicon & Synapse (now Blizzard Entertainment). The game combines elements of the platform, puzzle and adventure genres. It was first launched in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System game console and later also for PCs and other game consoles. A sequel called Norse by Norse West: The Return of the Lost Vikings was released in 1996.
The first part appeared in 1993, published under Blizzard's former company name Silicon & Synapse by the American publisher Interplay Entertainment. In it, the three Vikings Erik, Baleog and Olaf are abducted from their home village onto the spaceship of the alien Tomator, who collects alien species in the universe to exhibit them in his gallery. The Vikings manage to escape, but now they have to find their way home through various worlds.
The player takes it in turns to control one of the three main characters with their different, exclusive abilities in order to reach the end of the genre-typical two-dimensional levels together. Baleog has a sword and bow, Olaf has a shield and Erik can jump and bring down crumbling walls by ramming. The Vikings must always work together to solve the tasks and puzzles. If one of them dies, the level can no longer be completed.
