The Simpsons Arcade Xbox 360 Intro & Playthrough as Homer, Konami classic now delisted [4K]
11Full gameplay, longplay, playthrough, walkthrough and guide to The Simpsons arcade game by Konami from 1991 via the 2012 Xbox 360 version. Few people knew how big Matt Groening's Simpsons comedy characters would become and Konami really did strike gold for a second time so soon after the turtles game. What started as shorts on the The Tracey Ullman Show would be a cartoon that would be a key part of 90s culture.
Konami stuck to the same winning format as the Turtles, but added in new features like weapons and team attacks. The sprites are larger and also more colourful than the turtles, matching the cartoon sitcom perfectly. Added to that the sheer amount of cameos from various characters from the first series of the show, it also features cameo's from Bongo and Blinky the rabbits from Matt Groening's Life in Hell comic strip.
The game was a massive arcade success and the most baffling question is why the only home ports were to the Commodore 64 and PC only. Konami dropped the ball hugely on not porting many of their arcade games to the home systems at the time. The only sane reason for this not happening was the fact that other developers may have owned exclusive rights to make Simpsons games on certain formats.
The Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3 version really was the arcade under emulation, but is pretty much perfect and included both the English and Japanese arcade revision. The only drawback was the port was up for less than two years before it got delisted again alongside X-Men in December of 2013. We suspect it was linked to Backbone Entertainment growing problems that saw it close in 2015. It's a huge shame there is no current version of this game to buy on modern consoles.
