Truck Racer - PS3 - Event 00 - Training
2For the final leg of my multi-gen PlayStation truck racing mini-marathon I'm going to be doing Truck Racer on PS3. This was offered free with PS Plus in Sep 17 and is the main reason I decided to play all these truck games. It was originally released in Feb 2014 and only saw a physical release in Europe though PSN versions are available in North America and Australia. Although it's not part of Midas's "Truck Racing" series it's probably the closest equivalent on PS3, being a no nonsense, budget priced arcade truck racing game. This is much better than both of Midas offerings though in almost every way possible (apart from once again the lack of racing music which only the PS1 title featured). This has around 48 tracks (in much more interesting environments), a bunch of unlockable events, a selection of upgradeable trucks, in game currency you can earn to purchase said trucks and upgrades, different race types and drift and nitro boost mechanics. I still found the handling to be a little rough but that may just be par for the course in a game based around driving heavy trucks. There is no difficulty selection, you start off on the "easy" events and work your way up to the "expert" ones. The difficulty wasn't too bad, though I sometimes struggled with the time trials. I eventually specced out a truck just for time trials and they got easier. You can earn platinum medals for coming first in all races in an event so rest assured I'll be getting all those. Some of these races I had to replay to achieve first place, you'll know those from the score I get (anything less than 100), also if my credits suddenly increase out of nowhere that means I replayed a race in between. Only the winning races are shown in this playthrough The first race is just a training course that explains the controls.
This also came out on PC and Xbox 360 (only in Europe) and there are versions on PS2 and Wii, though I'm pretty sure those versions are totally different to this.
