Welcome back to the once-thought dead New Release Friday. This week we are casting out hooks into an Ultimate Fishing Simulator Gameplay and Review. My experience with fishing games is relatively limited, but back on Dreamcast I played a lot of Sega Bass Fishing, through my Gamecube days I played more Animal Crossing than any healthy child should have, and now as of late I have been grinding hard on Stardew Valley’s fishing. Although I haven’t played many things similar to the Ultimate Fishing Simulator gameplay I have found that I really like fishing mechanics in most games and will spend a lot of time doing it when it is available. Oh yeah… Runescape too. I fished in Runescape a lot. Ultimate Fishing Simulator definitely takes fishing much more seriously and in much higher detail than most of the other gameplay experiences I have had.

As long as I am typing this, sorry about the disappearance of New Release Friday. Less of an apology to you, the viewer, and more of an apology to the series itself. NRF brought a lot of life to my channel and was the largest part of the immense growth that I saw after rebranding to Delicroix’s Genuine Gaming. I had never seen such high viewership on my gaming content prior to that series, even if it wasn’t as popular as I had wished it were. I have wasted a lot of time lately and am beginning to realize how much of it could have been allocated to working on and growing my channel like I started over a year ago. Now I am finding myself in a situation where I am going to have to go back to working a job I hate because I know that my wellbeing is in jeopardy… but I just can’t let myself do that without a fight. So here I am rebooting New Release Friday and along with it my channel.

First off, what is NRF? New Release Friday is a series in which (hopefully) every week I will hop over to the “New Releases” section of Steam and pick-up a game to play for a few hours and give a first-thought review on. This series is an attempt to not only keep content fresh and relevant around the channel by covering current games in a concise and genuine fashion, but also to offer exposure to new games via a relaxed review format to inform potential, unsure buyers. Onward with our review portion of this Ultimate Fishing Simulator review and gameplay. I will start out by talking about what I liked about Ultimate Fishing Simulator and move on to talking about what they could do better. The performance is pretty solid in this game all things considered. It isn’t an incredible looking game, but it is still pretty in its own right and serves its purpose. I also really love the relaxing feel of the game and the sense of reward I get from pulling in a monster fish. Ultimate Fishing Simulator really excels at exactly that which it wants to do, which is provide a fleshed out fishing gameplay experience packed full of different gear, mechanics, fish, and locations. This is exciting in many ways, though I do have some qualms with the execution choices for the Ultimate Fishing Simulator gameplay I will dive deeper into that in the improvements section. Another weird thing they added was a slew of online radio stations and it is actually a very diverse selection of stations that play seamlessly between load screens and the like. I really like that touch and have been jamming 80’s rock while fishing for several hours.

Some things could definitely be improved in Ultimate Fishing Simulator and we will cover that during this section of the text review. One of the more frustrating gameplay elements for me was the net. Now, they have an automatic netting option that makes the glitchyness of it moot, but I was pretty annoyed that they allow you to catch monstrous fish that require a net, without telling you that you need the net. This leads to a lot of effort going into catching your first monster fish and instead of celebrating you just watch the fish swim away while the game tells you that you need to buy a net. That is messed up. I had a few stability issues with crashing and load screens hanging for a long period of time with Ultimate Fishing Simulator. The load time thing could be remedied by installing to an SSD for all I know though. I also really like the MMO feel of the game and knowing there are other real people around me fishing and getting to see what they are pulling in; however, I think that Ultimate Fishing Simulator should add in actual character player models and animations so that people can feel some sort of attachment to their character instead of like a weeble-wobble in a world of other weeble-wobbles.

So, to close off this Ultimate Fishing Simulator gameplay and review New Release Friday installment, my final thoughts:
This is a solid sim game with a lot of work done by people who sought to create an enjoyable and well fleshed out fishing experience. For under $20, this is a pretty solid fishing game that I think could get a lot better.
