Retro-Gaming is huge right now, especially in-terms of plug-and-play consoles you can play at home. AtGames, Nintendo and more have options to play a variety of different games from different sources. Retro-Bit has delivered some great retro consoles in the past that allow you to play NES, Super NES and Genesis cartridges. Taking what they’ve learned from the RES and RES+ and created a plug-and-play system that not only plays games from home consoles but also plays Arcade games. That’s right, you can finally achieve the promise many in the 80’s made but never truly accomplished by playing the actual arcade games in your home with the Retro-Bit Super Retro-Cade.

The Super Retro-Cade comes packed with over 90-games from a variety of sources. Games we’ve had access to on different consoles over the years on the NES, Super NES and Genesis along with select Arcade classics. This means that great games like Megaman 2 &3, Final Fight 2 &3 and Joe & Mac are here in, just like their cartridge counterparts. But it also means that we finally get to enjoy the best version of Double Dragon that has ever been produced, and that’s the original Arcade version.

The Super Retro-Cade can be had for $59.99 via Amazon and CastlemaniaGames.com and includes the console itself, two controllers an AC Adapter and an HDMI cable. The controllers are a completely new design unique to the Super Retro-Cade. They feature a 10-foot long cord with a USB plug on the end and are really quite nice in the hands. They are really well balanced, the buttons feel nice and clicky and overall they are a nice design. While some may have preferred wireless controllers that would have increased the overall cost of the system. Now, I can’t confirm this right now but stay tuned for the full-blown review as I have an idea of how we can possibly add wireless controllers to the Super Retro-Cade!

The Super Retro-Cade has a ton of ports on it. Up front you have 2 USB ports for the controllers to plug into securely and the top of the console has a push button on/off switch. Out back there is an SD Card slot, note that it is a full-size SD card slot and not a Micro-SD Card. Connecting the Super Retro-Cade to a TV is easy thanks to the stereo AV or HDMI ports. There isn’t any switch to change from 16:9 to 4:3 aspect ratios but you should be able to do this via your TV menu. Finally the power cable uses a barrel-type connector for power. I do wish it used a Micro USB port for power, that makes things so much easier.
