917Under the Waves is first and foremost a personal drama, a “narrative adventure game about the all-consuming power of grief” (it’s written in the very first sentence of the Steam description), and then a game about the sea and ocean. Of course, in the role of the submariner Stan, working for a large oil company, we are constantly sailing in a submersible on the ocean floor, completing daily tasks, maintaining equipment, collecting resources, taking pictures of whales and sharks, and so on. But the main thing here is the end of each working day, when Stan goes to bed in his small living module and sees nightmares created by the subconscious.
Another question is that the drama itself is read almost immediately - it has been described more than once in books, films and games. For example, in Heavy Rain from the same Quantic Dream.
