Was Halo Anniversary a faithful remaster? | Saber Interactive's take on Combat Evolved
Basically back in the late 2000s, early 2010s, 343 approached Saber with a project, a complete remaster of combat evolved in time for the game’s 10th anniversary. Saber accepted the project and what sprung from it is technically quite an accomplishment. Using Havok engine as an intermediary to make sure everything is in-sync, It's essentially two games running on top of each other. The gearbox software PC port of Halo as a base and then Saber’s Anniversary version as a coat of paint. Lots of care and careful consideration had to go into making sure everything synced up visually. If the ground texture was too elevated in anniversary graphics, players could look like they are clipping through the floor as they run through a room. Special tools were created so that the developers could make sure things added up visually. What they ended up shipping is really quite cool… But is it faithful to Combat Evolved?
