World of Warcraft (WoW) is one of the original MMOs which shot the genre into great popularity. This review will be covering the entire history of the game and not just the most recent expansion.

There are two major factions dominating the fantasy world of Azeroth. On one side, we have the Alliance, a noble and valiant army headed by the Humans of Stormwind. On the other side, we have the Horde, a brutal and ferocious rag tag group of outcast races trying to find their place in unfamiliar lands, headed by the savage Orc race residing in Orgrimmar, most of which have been corrupted by Fel magic from their original home world of Draenor. But Azeroth has more problems than just this major faction war, as there are nefarious demons invading that which is not their own, planning to eradicate all life regardless of their allegiance.

WoW has a very mixed history. Everything up to and including Wrath of the Lich King is fantastic, and defined the MMO genre as we know it today, offering an unforgiving and challenging world filled with content and places to explore and things to do. Once we get to Cataclysm & Warlords of Draenor though, this is when the beginning of the end started, Cataclysm offering a bare minimum amount of content and areas, and some seriously underwhelming raid content, while Warlords of Draenor severely lacked any reason to leave your Garrison and turned into a daily chore fest consisting of you logging in for an hour or two per day and then running out of things to do. Once Legion came around, things started to get better because World Quests are great, but this also marked another beginning of the end, this time being how easy and "softcore" the game is, offering an extremely boring leveling experience where Heirloom gear will ensure you never die a single time throughout your entire playing experience from 1 to max level.

Another major issue in recent expansions is how friendly the two factions have become with one another. In the most recent expansion as of typing this, Dragonflight, Alliance & Horde members can now be in the same guild as each other and even do instanced content together. The story has become painfully uninteresting, every single expansion since the beginning has made the player character the "chosen one," where I and I'm sure many others would love a break from that and just for once get to be a regular soldier in our faction's ranks, as opposed to be the destined champion of the ages who will bring balance to the world and defeat any and all evil. The story has also become problematic because the Horde has now had two evil warchiefs featured in major raids despite the Horde not being "bad guys," spaceships and sci-fi technology exist in this fantasy universe, and the everlasting problem of another greater threat always waiting around the corner, providing an endless cycle which can never be stopped.

WoW is one of my favorite and least favorite games. I like it because it used to be good and is one of the only popular MMOs in today's barren market, but I dislike it because it hasn't been very good for a long time and it only seems to be getting worse over time.
