X-Men is a home console video game produced by Sega for Sega Genesis in 1993, based on the adventures of the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men. One or two players can play as one of four pre-selected X-Men. The X-Men was released in 1993, followed by X-Men 2: The Clone Wars.
Plot
The game takes place in the Danger Room, the training area for the X-Men in X-Mansion. The satellite-borne virus infects the danger room and transcends control and security boundaries. The X-Men must endure the unpredictable behavior of the Danger Room until the virus is located and eliminated. Once the virus is eliminated, the X-Men find out that Magneto is behind the computer virus, and the final stage is to fight him.
Gameplay :
Can play Gambit, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Cyclops. Each character can jump and use a variety of infinite weapons (such as punches and kicks) and a super power whose use is limited by a mutant power bar similar to a health bar, causing players to rely more on standard attacks. The mutant energy bar will slowly regenerate when depleted, and will revert to the next character's mutant energy bar state from the last used state when switching characters mid-game (characters still in use will be in default full mutant energy bar starts).
Playable Characters
Wolverine: Uses retractable claws to increase the power of his basic attacks and allows him to perform special attacks in the air. Like other X-Men games, he has a healing factor that allows the character to recover from injuries (i.e. replenish the health bar).
Strategy: Use his signature Bo Staff as a weapon. His charge card tracks down enemies.
Cyclops: Use bounce optics to explode.
Nightcrawler: Use the teleportation ability that can jump through many areas or transport secondary characters.
Other X-Men such as Storm, Rogue, Iceman and Archangel can also join in support. Jean Grey also acts as a backup to pick up falling characters. Sauron can be seen as a cameo at the end of the first level, ironically helping the player during the flight. There are multiple levels, most of which have boss fights involving famous X-Men villains.
