3NeverGrave is a 2D, Sidescroller Metroidvania Hack and Slash Action Roguelite with Random Dungeons, a Roguevania.
NeverGrave feels like a Roguevania Take on Hollow Knight.
A Roguevania Take on Hollow Knight:
Like Hollow Knight, NeverGrave has the 2D, sidescrolling combat and platforming, along with fun and powerful upgrades, and a very pretty art style.
Also, like Hollow Knight, there is no stamina system here, so dash, attack, and jump around all you want!
Unlike Hollow Knight, in NeverGrave, each dungeon run is a bit different, due to the Procedural Generation of each run.
Additionally, the healing here functions like the Estus Flasks from Dark Souls, used all at once, not like the heals from Hollow Knight, so only heal when you really need it; as you only have 1, at least by default!
Meta Progression:
As a Roguelite, Meta Progression is a major component of NeverGrave.
Each run you gather coins, stone, food, wood, and more in the random dungeons.
After each dungeon run, you build structures in the village HUB to unlock abilities; powerful, stacking abilities.
Think stacking +10% sword boost, going up to a 50% boost, a +40% damage to attack from behind, 10% hp boosts; powerful, stacking boosts like that.
Note: These stacking boosts means that most will likely not be able to clear the game lacking them, as the game was balanced with them in mind.
Online Co-op is planned for the game release, but is not present in the current demo.
Controller Support is present, and good, which is very good, as keyboard and mouse support is not.
There is no mouse control in game outside menus, so unless 2 hands on keyboard is something you like, I foresee a gamepad in your future.
Thankfully, I already have a gamepad, so that is what I used in the video above.
Note: This is an Early look at NeverGrave so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, NeverGrave is a fun 2D, Sidescrolling, Hack and Slash Action Roguelite Roguevania, and really feels like a Roguevania take on Hollow Knight.
NeverGrave is easily well worth a wishlist and a watch.
