A Sci-Fi World Record, Six hours too Late | World 7 in 3:32.05
When I got this run, it was 1.3s faster than the verified World Record on the leaderboards.
6 hours after my run, the goal-post officially moved.
At which point I found myself berated for having had the gall to think I'd beaten the WR, just because...
You know... I HAD.
After the stream, when I went to post the Twitch highlight of my new WR to the Clustertruck speedrunners Discord, I discovered mine was the third "Sci-Fi WR" to be shared in the past 24 hours. Wolfii and Emily had tuned into my stream /while/ I was routing my own Sci-Fi run and each started running against me as I planned it. Emily managed to re-route 7:5 for 3-6 seconds time-save, and took the WR with that new tech something like 6 hours before I got the run you see here. In usual fashion, Wolfii then used Emily's new tech to take her WR back within an hour or two of seeing her run.
...None of which did I know while grinding this segment for 10 hours, across two consecutive livestreams; as my competition studied me from afar. So when I dejectedly posted my "was WR 6 hours ago" highlight of the stream, Emily decided to add insult to injury. In addition to defacing the thumbnail image of my old WR for that segment, and using it on her officially submitted leaderboard video; she also proceeded to lob a bunch of insults at me for having called my World Record run, a World record run -- in the face of not having known about her, as-yet also unverified, world record from 6 hours earlier.
At which point I calmly and reasonably indicated to Emily where she could get off, and into precisely which orifice she could stick it, and twist.
So, add this to the growing pile of my 1st place runs that never see 1st place on the leaderboards -- apparently because my runs inspire other runners to run what I'm running, while I'm running it. Which sounds nice, in theory! But leaves me in a position where I really can't run this game competitively, because so much of my tech is stolen AS I invent it; and moreso, I don't really get to enjoy my little victories for more than a few minutes, before finding out there's some new reason to lament it.
Congratulations Emily. Nice routing. I've put the new 7:5 into practice myself.
Wolfii... you're banned.
You want to win by making the game no fun for others to play?
Can't be asked to show a little run-courtesy and mutual respect for the competition?
So desperate to prove... something... that you can't leave more than 15 minutes for your fellow players to enjoy a hard-won victory, before you rush to take it away?
Fine.
You want to win by forcing everyone else from the field? Play alone, then.
I'm officially tired of this shit.
