While Europe is increasingly becoming a fortress, and at the same time aging at a rapid rate, African emigrants choose to go East. This, according to experts, will have disastrous consequences for the European economy, and thus for the future of the European citizens.
VPRO backlight follows the daily life of 'new happiness seekers' in China and analyzes the importance of this development with philosopher and political scientist Achille Mbembe and Ian Goldin, former vice president of the World Bank, advisor to Nelson Mandela, now Professor of Globalization and Development at the Oxford University.
Their analysis shows that Europe should open the borders as soon as possible, if it wants to be able to sustain its development into the next century.
